Fragments of a Revolution: Stories of Struggle and Survival from Sudan

Framing the Revolution

Sudan is often seen through the lens of crisis: military coups, economic collapse, and protracted conflict. But beneath these headlines lies a deeper story one of ordinary people navigating extraordinary circumstances, reimagining what it means to resist, to survive, and to build community in times of fragmentation. This project begins with a simple yet urgent question: what becomes possible when state structures fail, but the will to imagine a just future remains?

Fragments of a Revolution explores Sudan’s ongoing political and social transformations through the lived experiences of its people. Since the 2019 revolution that toppled Omar al-Bashir, Sudan has moved through moments of collective hope and deepening repression. From protest movements and digital resistance to artistic expression and mutual aid, this blog-based project documents how Sudanese organisers, artists, and citizens are giving meaning to justice and solidarity in the face of instability.
